Review of 7&7 – Virtues and Vices anthology

Potential-OTDU-Banner-91

A fabulously thorough and thoughtful review of this FREE anthology at DSP Publications.
14 authors contribute their stories – find your favourites and discover new ones!

BLURB: Humankind possesses a dual nature, the ability to rise to the brightest heights—or sink to the darkest and most perverse depths.

What inspires some to reach the pinnacles of virtue while others cannot resist the temptations of vice? Is it something innate, or a result of destiny and circumstance?

Delve into the minds and spirits of saints and sinners alike with a collection of stories that explore the call toward good or evil—and the consequences of answering it. For while rewards certainly await the righteous, there are also pleasures to be found in the darkness. Venture off the expected path with some of the most innovative voices in LGBT speculative fiction as they present their unique takes on the classic vices and virtues.

Includes my story TRAITOR (Fortitude):
Two men face each other from opposing sides of the political fence: the interrogator and the traitor.

Aiden Hanwell rarely knows the name of prisoners he interrogates on behalf of MI5’s specialist Department. But at their London base, he’s shocked to find Cameron Fischer – a man he knows only too well. Cam was a fellow agent but defected to a terrorist cell six months ago, turning traitor to the Department and to Aiden, his lover. Now Cam has returned, but as a prisoner with no hope of escape.

Aiden struggles to understand Cam’s motives while nursing his personal pain. Cam is haunted by his betrayal of a lover he’d cared for deeply. In those tense hours, neither of them can see any common ground or chance to reconcile, unless there are other secrets to be uncovered—and their skills are up to the task.

My story is TRAITOR: for the virtue of Fortitude.

Two men face each other from opposing sides of the political fence: the interrogator and the traitor.

Blast From the Past – Branded by Clare London

Many thanks to Elin Gregory for featuring BRANDED today, and inspiring me to rave about an AM Riley title in return 😀

Sometimes it’s really worth checking out backlists. There are some marvellous books out there but with hundreds of new titles every week it can be very hard to find them.
Authors – have you got a title a year or more old that could do with a little love?
Readers – have you got a favourite book that you think deserves some attention?

Message or email me and we’ll set something up.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This week I’m hosting an old friend, both book and author 🙂 When I started reading m/m I stuck very carefully to historicals only with just the occasional dip into other genres. Branded, then the two Gold Warrior books,  was one of my first excursions out of my rather narrow little comfort zone 🙂 I really enjoyed the adventure and physicallity of it, and it was surprisingly sexy too [you have to bear in mind that I’m…
Fabulous reviews for Branded
Branded_2016
I’m so thrilled at the responses received in reviews for BRANDED. After all, it’s a whopping book, and fantasy i.e. not my more familiar genre :). But the overall readers’ impression seems to be that it’s worth the investment.
It has a new home at DSP Publications nowadays, where they appreciate and welcome genres, themes and pairings beyond a central MM romance.
My heartfelt thanks to all readers!
The most recent review is from Brandilyn at Prism Book Alliance:
EXCERPT from review…
…Along the way, however, you get a fantastic story from which you will not be able to walk away.   There is action, adventure, friendship, betrayal, loyalty, and so much more.  There are fights to the death and jealous frenemies.  There is a lot of soul searching and heart searching.  There are the opening of eyes and opening of minds.  There are servitude and the status quo.  There are rebellion and hope.  There are love and passion.
And a previous review from Joyfully Jay:
…Overall, this is a well-planned story with plenty of themes to keep you rooting for the OTP and plot twists to keep you turning pages. Branded has a wide cast of characters that support the action and themes well. London does a fair job at making supporting characters clearly have lives not just to further the plot because the main character requires it, but are shown to have their own independent reasons and motivating factors. The prose isn’t particularly challenging, which helps the 400-odd pages fly by without those awkward moments of forgetting who is doing what and why. I’d recommend this book to anyone who wants an involving story that won’t require you to take notes just to keep everything straight. It’s got a great mix of sex and love, power and politics, and self-discovery and acceptance.
My author copies of BRANDED have arrived!!
See my crappy photo!!! 🙂
They look like they’re all poised in the starting blocks. Not that they’re going anywhere, except to my heart.(*awww*)
And BRANDED had a tremendously enthusiastic and thorough review over at Divine Magazine recently. Please go and read it – and their other great features – from HERE.
Branded_2016EXCERPT from review:
“The story – well, Maen and Dax’s relationship – made me cry more than once. Literally. I was lip-quivering and snivelling a lot, whenever those two were together.
The characterisation and detail were fantastic. The plot was well thought out and executed, in a way that revealed just enough information, just when it was needed. The chemistry between the ‘couples’ was stunning and there were quite a few twists and turns that I never saw coming. The writing was of a very high caliber and something that I really warmed to, very quickly. This is, very possibly, the first 1st person POV story that I’ve ever really fallen into. I’m notoriously picked about 1st person, but this one felt so natural.
Overall, a fantastic – if, exhausting – read. I’d read it again. I’d read anything by this author again, no questions asked. And I’d read more of this world and these characters in a heartbeat.” (from Elaine)
PS from Clare: and I’d say there was definitely *more* MM than MF, especially in the latter half of the book, but then I’m the biased author :).
Clare London on Branded, diversity and genre at The Novel Approach
TNA2
I’m chatting with Carole Cummings this week – hosted by the wonderful The Novel Approach – on the release of BRANDED and why it’s not your usual MM Romance fayre. It’s part of the marvellous and thought-provoking series of Genre talks. Great questions from Carole, and she was very gentle with me! 🙂
DSP Publications is committed to releasing books that offer more than romance – or other than, if that’s your preference – in a wide variety of genre. BRANDED feels at home there! I really hope readers enjoy the new look novel.
And of course, any excuse taken to lust over my own cover LOL
Branded by Clare London hits the shelves
Branded_2016My fantasy novel BRANDED is now on sale at DSP Publications.
Maen is a Gold Warrior, an elite defender of Aza City, respected by his fellow soldiers and favored by his imperious Mistress for services both in and out of the bedchamber. His loyalty and commitment are unwavering until he recruits Dax, a captivating and challenging Bronzeman who, despite his youth and inexperience, seduces Maen with his fierce hero worship. When they’re captured by enemies of the City, Maen risks everything to save Dax: his position, his faith, and even his life. But he loses his lover to the rebels and upon his return to the City is stripped of his rank.
In Aza, where a soldier’s only lawful devotion is to the City and his Mistress’s pleasure, the disgraced Maen is placed under the watchful guard of the arrogant Gold Warrior Zander and relegated to preparing a Royal History for the new Queen. But his discoveries cast a new and shocking light on the past and threaten to stir revolution in both citizens and rebels. With the help of the lively and inquisitive scribe Kiel, Maen initiates a chain of events that will change their world forever—and offer him the chance to regain both his honor and his heart’s desire.
