My Rainbow Snippet Dec 27

The inspirational and fun Rainbow Snippets group on Facebook invites authors to post 6 sentences of their work each weekend.

From my Christmas/New Year story NOWHERE TO HIDE starring Dan who’s struggling with a troubled life and his ever-patient boyfriend Aaron. Is this going to be the year Dan welcomes Aaron fully into his heart?

He frowns: I can see him better than he can see me at the moment. “You don’t need to hide in the dark. To avoid facing me. I hoped you trusted me.”

“Oh, but I do,” I say, quite sharply. “Though I don’t think I’ve made it clear enough. I’ve not made much clear at all, really. There are times, Aaron, when the only thing that I trust is you, and the way I feel about you. And how you feel about me. It’s the only thing that’s felt real to me.” The only thing that’s kept me from huddling in that furthermost corner.

He starts to speak, but bites back the sound. I ignore it, because that’s the only way I’m going to be able to continue.

“But other times, I can see the rest of my life, and really it’s pretty great. I have good friends, a job, and always new things happening, things that I enjoy and things I’m pleased with. Things that I should treasure.” I take a quick breath, trying to slow down. “I know that I have to work on that – to concentrate on that, not the black moods.”

About clarelondon

Clare London took her pen name from the city where she lives, loves, and writes. A lone, brave female in a frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home, she juggles her writing with her other day job as an accountant. She’s written in many genres and across many settings, with award-winning novels and short stories published both online and in print. She says she likes variety in her writing while friends say she’s just fickle, but as long as both theories spawn good fiction, she’s happy. Most of her work features male/male romance and drama with a healthy serving of physical passion, as she enjoys both reading and writing about strong, sympathetic, and sexy characters. Clare currently has several novels sulking at that tricky chapter three stage and plenty of other projects in mind... she just has to find out where she left them in that frenetic, testosterone-fuelled family home. 1. Awesome snippet. I especially loved this:

It’s the only thing that’s felt real to me.” The only thing that’s kept me from huddling in that furthermost corner.

    That is so heart-wrenchingly honest.
